Your First Line of Defense Against Breast Cancer
Increase your chances of defeating breast cancer with Piedmont Medical Center’s early screening mammography services. Mammography is a relatively painless procedure that is used to detect breast cancer through low-dose x-rays. The American Cancer
Society recommends that women should get their first mammogram done at the age of 40. Don’t put off your mammogram, it could save your life.
Piedmont Medical Center provides you an opportunity to ensure your health with Digital Mammography services, a more advanced 3D imaging of the breast tissue, as well. We have a team of skilled and experienced staff who not only perform the procedure,
but also offer you advice regarding routine breast screening and support.
We offer screening mammograms at three of our imaging locations. No physician order is required for screening mammograms.
Piedmont Medical Center was the First Hospital in the Region to offer 3D Mammography
Digital 3D mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis, provides physicians with a clearer image of deep breast tissue and decreases the need for further examinations. This advanced technology can help distinguish superimposed tissue from real
abnormalities, leading to fewer callbacks and less anxiety for women. Tomosynthesis may also find abnormalities at earlier stages, when breast cancer is more treatable. (A physician will determine whether an order is required for a patient
to have 3D mammography.)

Why 3D Mammography?
3D Mammography, also known as Tomosynthesis, is ideal for women with dense breasts because it gives radiologists a more detailed view of the breast tissue, helping to find smaller cancers earlier. The advanced technology also decreases the number of false
positives. No one wants to go back for a second mammogram, which may not be covered by insurance.
