Interventional Neurology is an advanced, minimally-invasive surgical treatment for complex brain and spinal cord vascular diseases that is performed from inside the blood vessels. Also known as endovascular neurosurgery, neuro-interventional surgery,
endovascular surgical neuroradiology and interventional neuroradiology. It involves advancing small, flexible tubes (catheters) and other small devices through arteries and veins. Many of the treatments are performed entirely inside the blood vessels
through a small puncture with no other treatment necessary. In other cases, the endovascular treatment is the first step prior to open Neurosurgery.
Piedmont Medical Center’s Neuroendovascular Program boasts a new, robust Biplane Angiography Suite. This technology, combined with a skilled Neuroendovascular team, allows us to offer minimally invasive and cutting edge treatments to the patients
of York County and surrounding areas.
Some of the procedures performed at our hospital are:
Coil embolization of ruptured and unruptured brain aneurysms
Mechanical endovascular clot removal for acute stroke
Intra-arterial thrombolytic therapy for acute stroke
Pre-operative embolization of vascular malformations of the brain and spine
Pre-operative embolization of intracranial and spine tumors
