Specialized care for speech

Our speech therapy team has some of the most specialized set of practitioners under one roof in the Carolinas.

Lead by a staff with more than 60 years of combined experience, our speech therapy program offers comprehensive speech, swallowing, and feeding therapies.

Our patient-specific, state-of-the art services include:

  • LSVT LOUD™ Parkinson’s Disease program: therapy that can help patients with vocal loudness, intonation, and voice quality
  • TEP (Transesophageal prosthesis) measuring, replacement, and management for people post-laryngectomy (removed voice box) who want the freedom to speak without the use of electronic devices
  • FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing), an advanced way of evaluating a person’s ability to swallow by analyzing the specific structures involved in the process. This procedure provides on-the-spot diagnostic analysis of the complex swallowing mechanism, allowing therapists to more accurately and successfully prescribe treatment options.
  • Modified Barium Swallow Studies. Completed in conjunction with radiologists in our imaging department, these studies create recommendations for safe feeding and swallowing when there is a suspicion of swallowing impairment
  • Vital Stim©, a specialized modality used to retrain the muscles associated with swallowing
Neonatal and pediatric feeding assessment and intervention through the use of specialized feeding tools, techniques and training of parents and caregivers

Meet the Team

Erin Harrison MA, CCC-SLPErin Harrison, MA, CCC-SLP

"Eating is such an essential and basic part of our lives. You can feed the body artificially but that does not feed the heart!  Eating is so much more than nutrition- it is pleasure, comfort, social.  I love when I can help someone regain the ability to eat and see their face light up!  Helping a person speak again is another great honor.  To lose the ability to express yourself...I can't even imagine that. I'm all about getting that person as independent as possible and enjoying life as much as possible."

Erin Harrison has over 28 years’ experience in the field of Speech/Language Pathology. Her undergraduate degree was a BA Double Major in Psychology and Communication Disorders and Speech Science. She completed a Junior Year Abroad at University of Lancaster, UK with a focus on Psychology Studies. She completed her medical externship at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1990 with a MA in Communication Disorders and Speech Science, she started her career in San Francisco at the Institute of Child Language and Phonology. She was soon working at Lucile Salter-Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and then relocated with her husband to San Diego where she was employed at Children's Hospital of San Diego (now Rady). While primarily focused on acute and pediatric rehabilitation during her 15 years in California, she also did contract work with Palomar-Pomerado Hospital, home health agencies, school districts, developmental day cares, skilled nursing facilities, adult day health, traveling registries, as well as had a private practice for children and adults.

After moving to Rock Hill in 2005, Erin began treating patients at Fort Mill schools, in the local skilled nursing facilities and HealthSouth before accepting a position with Tenet in 2008.  Her current areas of specialization include Videoflouroscopy, Head and Neck Cancer including laryngectomy, Parkinson's, and dysphagia. She is certified in Lee Silverman Voice Training (LSVT), Vital Stim (NMES and sEMG Biofeedback), deep tissue mobilization of the head and neck, and is a Head and Neck Lymphedema Therapist.

As the Speech Team Lead Erin strives to maintain communication across teams, increase patient satisfaction and ensure that the services provided are of the highest standards.
