PMC Physician Network Welcomes Dr. Courtney Stephenson to PMC Maternal Fetal Medicine

Mar 7, 2021

PMC Physician Network welcomes Courtney D. Stephenson, DO, FACOG to the area’s first and only maternal fetal medicine practice. With a special interest in prenatal ultrasound screening and diagnosis for high risk pregnancy, Dr. Stephenson provides comprehensive, individualized care to each patient and their unborn babies.

Dr.-Courtney-Stevenson“I am excited to be here in Fort Mill.  There is a real need for high risk specialized prenatal care for the women of this community,” shared Dr. Stephenson.  “My approach to healthcare is to treat every woman as an individual. My goal is to listen carefully to their thoughts and concerns. I believe women have an instinct about their unborn baby that should not be overlooked. I try to give the best information I can at each visit. I am meticulous about details and imaging and have more than 19 years of experience performing prenatal diagnostic ultrasounds.”

Dr. Stephenson’s clinical knowledge of high-risk, multiple fetal pregnancies extends to the distinctions of being: the first surgeon to perform fetoscopic surgery in the region; the first surgeon to perform intrauterine microwave ablation procedure for the treatment of Twin Reverse Arterial Perfusion Sequence (TRAP) globally; the first female physician to open de novo fetal surgery center.

“We are starting a brand new practice one turn off of I-77 granting convenient access to care for many women and families who find heading to a ‘big city’ for medical care more stressful to their condition,” said Dr. Stephenson. “We have sidewalk access, no parking garages, and several state-of-the-art medical equipment often found in major hospital systems, right here.  There is no reason to ‘head uptown’ when we are in your backyard.”

Over the past decade, Dr. Stephenson has consistently been recognized as a "Top Doctor", both locally and nationally, with over 30 awards for excellence in patient care, innovations in medicine, and she was noted as one of Mecklenburg's 50 Most Influential Women.

Dr. Stephenson earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Afterwards, she completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at New York Methodist Hospital and she then completed her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. Presently, Dr. Stephenson is a member of the International Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Society of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
