Herald  Feb. 24, 2010  Study: Infection risk low at area hospitals -- The second Hospital Infections Disclosure Act Annual Report shows Piedmont Medical Center falls in line with national infection rates. Chief medical officer Dr. Richard Patterson said PMC has a "robust" system for reducing infections. It includes carefully monitoring antibiotics in the operating room, following surgical patients intently to make sure proper dosages are administered and training staff on things such as the proper preparation of the operating room environment and the importance of frequently washing hands.
