Update Feb. 3, 2010

Children now permitted to visit the hospital

To help prevent the spread of H1N1, in October Piedmont Medical Center suspended those under age 18 from visiting the hospital.

Now that there's been a significant decrease in the number of H1N1 cases reported nationwide, Piedmont is lifting these visitation restrictions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, visits to doctors for influenza-like illness nationally are low. Overall, cumulative hospitalization rates for the 2009-10 influenza season also have leveled off in all age groups.

To protect patients, staff and visitors, Piedmont still asks those with flu-like symptoms or other contagious illnesses not to visit the hospital unless they are receiving medical treatment.

Family and friends are important to a patient's recovery; and so are periods of uninterrupted rest. To make recovery as comfortable as possible, please observe the following when visiting patients:

  • First time visitors should check in at the front desk for patient location
  • Visits should be kept short--around 20 minutes
  • People with colds, sore throat, flu and/or contagious diseases should not visit patients
  • Pediatric patients may have a limited number of visitors stay at all times
  • In critical care units, two visitors are permitted in a room during specified visiting hours.
  • Children must be under the direct adult supervision at all times

General visiting hours are from noon to 8:30 p.m. daily. In the best interest of our patients, please limit visits to two visitors at a time.
