New Attitude Room opens at Piedmont Women's Center

The New Attitude Room at Piedmont
The New Attitude Room at Piedmont offers an inviting place for cancer patients.

A new resource is now available at Piedmont Medical Center for women undergoing cancer treatment. “The New Attitude Room” offers free wigs, scarves, turbans and other items that can help women enhance their appearance.

Located on the ground floor of the Piedmont Women’s Center, the room features a dressing table and shelves displaying a variety of styles and colors of wigs, hats and scarves.

“This is an important step in the growth of our cancer program at Piedmont,” says Jeanne Musgrove, director of cancer services. “We recognize that many of our patients need social support, as well as the physical and clinical services we provide as they face the challenges of their treatment and recovery. This is a comfortable place to go for some of that support.”

The New Attitude Room is a joint effort between Piedmont, the American Cancer Society, and the Piedmont Volunteer Auxiliary. Members of the Auxiliary donated most of the items needed to open the room and will provide its staffing.

“The Auxiliary took on this project eagerly,” says Wilma Taylor, Auxiliary president. “We painted, hung shelves, decorated and got everything ready for our visitors. It was so exciting when women immediately began taking advantage of the room, and we could see that we are meeting a real need by lifting their spirits.”

The New Attitude Room is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Its services are free to anyone in the community. However, the Auxiliary needs more donations of new hats, along with used wigs and scarves. If you have items to donate, please contact Kim Brock, volunteer director, at (803) 329-6828.
